The seventeenth European Conference on Composite Materials (ECCM17) was held in the famous city of Munich (Germany) from 26th to 30th, 2016.

ECCM is Europe‘s leading biennial conference on composite material and attracts internationally renowned scientists and engineers to experience the latest research findings in their respective areas of expertise. As such the Munich event followed the long tradition of the ECCM conference series with a wide scope of topics in composite technologies. The conference attracted internationally renowned scientists and engineers in the field of aerospace, automotive and mechanical engineering and brought together the scientific and the application-oriented world. Approximately 900 presentations, held in up to 16 rooms simultaneously, were delivered at the four-day conference in Munich. In addition there was an exhibition and poster show.

Furthermore it was possible to visit industrial companies and scientific institutes in and around Munich.

An attractive background programme was arranged to complement the interesting presentations and discussions. For the first time a special evening event was organized for PhD students.

The conference was organised by the Institute for Carbon Composites of the Technical University Munich (TUM) and the Leading-Edge Cluster MAI Carbon, under the patronage of the European Society for Composite Materials (ESCM). TUM is one of Europe’s top universities. It is committed to excellence in research and teaching, interdisciplinary education and the active promotion of promising young scientists. MAI Carbon is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and consists of companies, training and research facilities, as well as supporting organisations, which are active within the technological field of carbon-fibre reinforced plastics in the region of Munich-Augsburg-Ingolstadt (MAI).
